I always have been a big LOTR fan, and I LOVED the impressivness in the movies.

We have a lot of the toybiz figures, so he's kind of like the jewel in the crown.

Not so much the property likeness as much as it is a benchmark for the toy industry that caught my interest. Y'know, the kind of thing that McF used to establish. Nobody's tackled anything of this magnitude before. Sure, that it's a LOTR is great, it's an enormous monster which is certainly appealing whether it was based on the mythos or not, it's very rare, it's an actual action figure with articulation, and it's badass. It's visually stunning, has an incredible story behind both its fictional basis and its production as an item, and it's a work of art as far as I'm concerned. From my perspective, it's literally CC Urizen times 10. It also has the appeal of being a guaranteed investment, but that's usually not enough to convince me to buy a toy. I really like this sucker, and I want one for my collection - that's really the bottom line. Conversely, I don't get why people pay large sums of money for things like fake tits or 1:1 scale busts or Starbucks coffee. We likes what we likes.

Hey Mike..do you have the large Balrog head votive? Is it the same sculpt as the new figure, or a different sculpt?

It looks different from online pics, but looks similar in size.

I'm wondering if a head transplant would be possible, to give the head that great look the votive has?

From looking at pics, it looks like the votive has a much better sculpt, even though the figure version looks very good as well.

Once I get my big guy, I'll ponder if it's worth doing an "upgrade" on him.

Ideally, I could loose the sound, and would like to just have flickering lights in his head and flames.

I could probably recast the head in clear resin, since I've used that successfully before, but if I could use the votive, that would give him the better sculpt as well.

From what I've seen online, I'm thinking of loosing and puttying the waist joint, and maybe loosing and puttying the hip joints. (And then I won't have to worry about "droop" over time.)

Since he's going to really be more a display piece, then a played with toy, just having his arm articulation might be just fine.

I'm also thinking of building him a bridge "base" and screwing his feet to it, so they don't bend out as well. Plus toybiz Gandalf can use used for the display.

I gave it to my nephew a long time ago - but I reviewed it back then. Yep, very different head sculpt.
